Best pub in Dunedin.

The beer is carefully and expertly cellared, I have never had anything except top quality beer from here. Bar staff are always happy to let you have a taster before deciding which beer to order, which is a massive bonus, and means you get the one you really want.

The food is based on a small menu with fresh, local ingredients. I simply love the pan fried fish of the day, the pasta with arrabiata sauce is also a favourite. Puddings are simply delicious, the creme brulee being prepared in classic rather than fiddled-with form.

The staff are always charming and friendly. I genuinely feel it's like home-from-home.

Consistently good beer, food and service at this excellent establishment over couple of years that it has been open under new management. The beer selection has top quality regular brews from Emerspn's; Tuatara and Three Boys breweries amongst the several other guest ales that appear on an ad hoc basis. There are two hand-pumps serving ale direct from the cask as well as a quality range of wines and spirits and the opportunity to have a taster of them all via the tasting paddle option. The choice of whiskies available gives the nod to the owners Scots heritage.

The food is sublime and obviously focusses on consistent top quality since the menu is not large and varied but sufficient to provide great food to accompany great beer.

Located at the top of the hill on the starboard side as you drive into Port Chalmers along George Street (or on the port side if you're walking up the hill from your cruise ship), it's well worth a visit.

The Portsider Tavern is a great quaint pub and restaurant, serving great beer along side even better food...!!!!!No steak knife needed for beautifully seasoned sirloin, and a fresh gurnard with delicately cooked clams for fish of the day was well presented.Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed.Did I mention the beer, too much choice is never a bad thing!

This pub is a gem. The food is great and the staff are super friendly. The best part of the place is the beer on offer. Many different styles from all over nz. The staff are passionate about their brews and happy to give tasters and advice. Go now!

The worst dining experience of my life.

Meals were at best poor quality takeaway style.
Food was over cooked, tasteless and very very small.
Crumbed fish was very thin, dry and like eating sand paper.
Fish of the day meal was tiny, 2 small pieces of fish on what looked like 1 broken up boiled potato, with a sprinkle of lettuce.
Salad consisted of a small bowl of lettuce with grated carrot.
Chips were served in a very small flower pot, go figure.

Manager and chef were rude and argumentive when we said we were not happy.
Manager even told me i would be a thief if I did not pay and at no point did I say I was not paying.

We should have taken the warning signs when we walked in as the place was empty on a Saturday night of the school holidays.

As I said worst dining experience ever.
